The transportation of wire drums by car or truck can have a considerable effect on the winding quality of the wire. Emergency braking or unsecured movements can cause individual coils in the drum to shift or twist. This results in wire loops or knots, which later lead to an uneven wire feed during operation.
Persistent vibrations during transportation can also loosen the layer structure and have a negative effect on the pull-off properties.
To ensure a stable welding process, it is therefore just as important to secure the barrel properly during transportation as it is to carry out a visual inspection before commissioning.
