When welding with soft wires, it is important to select a liner with a suitable inner diameter. If the liner is too narrow in relation to the wire diameter, the number of contact points between the wire and the liner wall increases. This leads to higher friction, abrasion and potential dust formation.

Soft wires in particular tend to move spirally in the liner due to their residual twist. If the diameter is too small, this can cause them to rest more heavily against the liner wall, which has a negative effect on the wire feed. Guide value: The inner diameter of the liner should be approx. 0.4-0.6 mm larger than the wire diameter. For aluminum wires, for example, a liner with an inner diameter of approx. 1.6-1.8 mm is recommended for 1.2 mm wire.
