Arc Length Too Short
If the arc is kept too short, the welding process becomes unstable. The arc cannot burn steadily, often leading to excessive spatter and an uneven weld surface. The molten metal is expelled uncontrollably, and lack of fusion defects may occur.
How to avoid it:
- Maintain the recommended arc length (typically about the electrode or wire diameter)
- Ensure steady hand movement or use automation if possible
- Check and adjust welding parameters
- Provide training and practice to improve welding technique
